Konnowac Wins Award for Spillway Weir Modifications
Staff |
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have awarded a US$135,750 contract to Konnowac LLC for spillway weir modifications at the 810-MW Lower Monumental hydropower plant in Washington.
The Corps most recently sought bids for the work in August from firms capable of modifying Lower Monumental's weir and Spillbay 8.
Concrete work in the spillbay includes removal of guard railing, a section of concrete traffic barrier, and electrical conduit in the work area. New concrete work includes rebar vertical anchor dowels and two layers of horizontal rebar. New electrical conduit and wire and new railing are to be installed.
While the removable spillway weir is deployed, Konnowac is to relocate removable guardrail and provide additional removable guardrail and new banded bar grating. While the weir is in stored position, divers are to change out bolted connections.
The Corps installed a 120-foot tall, 80-foot wide, 1,000-ton removable spillway weir at Lower Monumental in 2007. The removable spillway weir is fitted into a spillway bay to allow juvenile salmon and steelhead to pass the dam near the water's surface.
