U.S. Seeks Fishway Temperature
Improvements at 810-MW Lower Granite Dam

Lower Granite Dam in remote SE Washington, backs up the Lower Snake some forty miles to the Idaho border. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids for construction of structures to provide fishway temperature improvements at 810-MW Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River in Washington. Bids are due June 19.

The Corps' Walla Walla District last year announced it planned to seek bids for the work.

The Corps awarded a $48.3 million contract in October to Garco Construction Inc. to upgrade the juvenile fish passage facility at Lower Granite. It also issued a $2.7 million contract in July to Engineered Heavy Services LLC to modify a juvenile fish collection channel at the project.

The Walla Walla District now seeks fishway temperature improvements at Lower Granite to promote adult fish passage within the Lower Granite fish ladder by providing cooler water using deeper forebay withdrawal structures and a modified discharge release structure.

Forebay withdrawal structures include a chimney and two extension housings, allowing for an intake depth 66 feet below forebay elevation. The discharge release for auxiliary Pumps 1 and 2 will be modified to include additional piping and support structure on the face of the dam. The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF15B0003 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.
