U.S. Sets Site Visit for Rewind, Cavitation
by Staff
|
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a site visit to outline proposed generator rewinds and turbine cavitation repairs at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River in Washington. The site visit is scheduled March 23 with a solicitation expected to be issued in March.
The Corps' Walla Walla District requested information last year on firms able to perform the generator rewinds and turbine cavitation repairs at Lower Monumental. The district took bids last year to refurbish thrust bearing shoes at Lower Monumental and 603-MW Ice Harbor dams. It took bids in February to provide biological services for its juvenile fish transportation program at Lower Monumental and four other hydro projects.
The district said it now plans to seek bids to rewind generators and repair turbine cavitation at Lower Monumental. The Corps said generator Unit 1 experienced a runner hub linkage failure, prompting the Corps to weld blocks to the hub to hold the blades in a fixed position. The proposed work would replace internal hub linkage components requiring disassembly of the main unit and turbine runner, with a provision to inspect and refurbish other turbine and generator components.
Repairs would include cavitation repair to Unit 1 blades, hub and discharge ring as well as repair of cavitation damage to the Unit 2 runner. The contractor also would supply a new stator winding and stator core.
The work is valued at $10 million to $25 million.
A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF15R0001 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. A site visit is scheduled March 23. A solicitation is expected to be issued in March with bids expected to be due in May.
