Port Angeles Might Break from Clallam PUD,
by Brian Gawley
PORT ANGELES -- The City Council might support the proposed settlement of a lawsuit against the Bonneville Power Administration that recently was rejected by Clallam County Public Utility District.
The issue probably will be placed on the City Council agenda tonight because of a Jan. 21 deadline for litigants to give Bonneville an answer, Port Angeles Mayor Richard Headrick said.
``Are we completely satisfied? No, but this settlement is the best we can do for our customers, citizens and ratepayers,'' said City Councilwoman Karen Rogers.
``We are not totally satisfied with the settlement, but we feel it is the best we are going to get.''
Public utilities such as Clallam PUD sued Bonneville in 2001, saying power rate subsidies provided to investor-owned utilities such as Puget Sound Energy, which serves Jefferson County, have caused rates to PUDs and city utilities to increase.
