Summer Lock Schedule Starts Friday
by StaffWalla Walla Union-Bulletin, May 14, 2009 |
Recreational boaters on the Columbia and Lower Snake rivers will go on summer time Friday.
Navigation locks to travel past U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams will switch to summer schedules. The change affects eight Corps dams, four on the Lower Snake River and four on the Columbia River.
Boaters traveling upstream can lock through at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Downstream boaters may lock through at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The schedule will remain in effect until Sept. 15. Recreational vessels have precedence over commercial vessels during the designated times. At other times, boaters may be allowed to lock through with commercial craft at the discretion of the lockmaster.
