The crane at the Port of Lewiston was kept busy Friday. Barges per item: pulse, plastic, paper, metal scrap, machinery, lumber, grain, garnet sand, Diatomaceous earth, bentoninte clay (Port of Lewiston 2007-09).

LEWISTON - After a two-week closure of the lock at the Dalles Dam slowed worked at the Port of Lewiston, it was back to business Friday.

The lock, which allows passage of more than 12 million tons of commodities between Portland and Lewiston, was closed for repairs after the Army Corps of Engineers found extensive cracking. The lock reopened earlier this week but the first barge didn't arrive in Lewiston until Thursday night.

Friday afternoon crews were busy loading containers on to barges.
