Late Runoff Complicates Reservoir Refillby Eric BarkerLewiston Tribune, June 23, 2011 |
Dworshak will probably hit high mark later than usual
Dworshak Reservoir is likely to refill this year, but it might be later than the traditional end-of-June deadline.
As of Wednesday, the reservoir was 17 feet below full pool. But summer-like temperatures led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase flows from the dam this week. Steve Hall, water manager for the corps at Walla Walla, said the region still has abundant snowpacks that will produce high spring flows. If the reservoir were to fill too quickly, he said the agency would not have enough storage capacity to capture high flows expected over the next few weeks.
