The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a US$315,212 contract to Skyward Construction Inc. to supply replacement hoists on the north shore fishway entrance at the 810-MW Little Goose hydropower project.
The Corps' Walla Walla District most recently sought bids for the work in March, which calls for Skyward to replace two temporary A-frame chain fall hoist systems that were installed after Little Goose's previous hoists failed.
As per the contract, Skyward Construction is to remove remains of the original hoists, then fabricate, deliver, install and test new hoists with working capacities of 15,000 pounds. Work is also to include replacing water level sensors and limit switches, installing controls and integrating them with the existing control system.
Work on the project is expected to take nine months, with on-site work beginning in January 2014.
HydroWorld.com reported earlier this week that the Corps' Walla Walla District had also awarded a contract for geotechnical work at Lower Granite Dam. For more rehabilitation and upgrade news, visit here.
