Utilities Push Energy-Efficient
by Associated Press |
EUGENE, Ore. - Under a pilot program sponsored by the Bonneville Power Administration, the Emerald People's Utility District is offering an incentive to Eugene-area homeowners willing to try a ductless heat pump.
The incentive, which includes $1,500 rebates and a zero-interest loan up to $7,500 to cover installation costs, is available to 10 customers who use electricity to heat their homes.
The ductless heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat between outdoors and indoors, much like a refrigerator.
The Eugene Water & Electric Board and the Springfield Utility Board also are offering either a $1,500 rebate or a zero interest loan of up to $4,000 to customers who install the system. Neither utility is limiting the number of participants.
