Riggins' fishing and tourism economy keeps town going strong
RIGGINS - It's a month later than usual for the salmon to be running and the fishing is spotty. Still, Jerome Walker of Kooskia, a Nez Perce Indian from the White Bird clan, says he expects the season to peak soon.
"It's up and down right now because of the temperature of the water," Walker said, sitting in his pickup truck parked alongside U.S. Highway 95 at the confluence of Rapid River and the Little Salmon River. His was among about 25 cars cramped onto the narrow shoulder of the road.
