Corps Awards Contract to Modify Fish Channel
at 810-MW Lower Granite Hydropower Project

by Michael Harris
HydroWorld, Jul;y 11, 2014

Lower Granite Dam in SE Washington state impounds the Lower Snake forty miles up beyond the Idaho border. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a US$2.7 million contract to Engineered Heavy Services LLC to modify a juvenile fish collection channel at the 810-MW Lower Granite hydropower project.

The Corps' Walla Walla District most recently solicited bids for the work in April, which will permanently close juvenile fish collection channel reservoir side fish slots and Wagner horn openings. Closure is to be accomplished by using existing fish slot screens and converting them with concrete into fish slot plugs and by constructing reinforced concrete plugs for the Wagner horns, which are 3-foot-diameter corrugated metal pipe-lined openings. Lower Granite Dam is located on the Snake River in Washington
