(Blaine Harden) Little Goose and other federal dams have been ordered to spill water to keep migrating salmon in the Snake River, avoiding potentially deadly turbines. STARBUCK, WA -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, has temporarily closed the navigation lock at Little Goose Lock and Dam after a non-government vehicle was involved in an incident on the dam's bascule bridge on the evening of June 2.

According to officials, no injuries were reported. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to document the incident. Efforts are currently underway to safely remove the vehicle and resume normal operations.

The minimum estimated time for restoring navigation services is approximately five hours, pending safety evaluations and environmental compliance checks.

The lock has been marked out of service in the Lock Performance Monitoring System (LPMS), and the U.S. Coast Guard has been notified. A Notice to Navigational Interests (NTNI) has also been issued to alert commercial and recreational waterway users.

For updates, the public can contact the Walla Walla District Public Affairs Office at 509-527-7020 or via email at cenww-pa@usace.army.mil.
