Navigation Locks, Fishing Access to Close Temporarily

by Staff
The Columbian, March 5, 2004

Construction at Bonneville Dam will close the Oregon-side visitor center and fishing access Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until noon, although the Washington Shore Visitor Center will be open as usual at 9 a.m.

In addition, boaters should be aware that navigation locks on eight federal dams along the Columbia River and lower Snake River will be closed for two weeks, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, while contractors perform annual inspections, repairs and maintenance.

The closure will affect Bonneville, The Dalles, John Day and McNary dams on the Columbia, and Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite dams on the lower Snake in Eastern Washington. All dams except John Day will reopen to river traffic at 12:01 a.m. March 21; John Day will remain closed until 6:30 a.m. April 3 for completion of concrete repair work.
